Dear Village Resident:

The Village DPW Department has done an amazing job of keeping the roads free of the tenacious ice which has blanketed the area in the last few days. This effort does not include the sidewalks which, as you doubtless know, are the responsibility of the homeowner who lives next to them. Lots of people walk in Scotia and it is the duty of all of us to keep our sidewalks clear of snow and ice. The Fire Department medics have had numerous calls for people falling on the ice. Please do your part to assure that this doesn’t happen on your sidewalk.

We understand that many stores have had their supply of ice control material depleted. Because of this we are making a pile of sand and salt mix available for free at the Village Garage. It will be on the left hand side of Zoar Court just in from Albion Street. Please bring your own container. Now everyone can help make the Village safe.

Dear Scotia Resident-
A number of people have asked me about what is happening with Stewarts. The Planning Board has finished a marathon cycle and given their blessing. The last step of the approval is coming this Wednesday with the consideration of a special use permit to allow gas pumps back at this location. The Village Board is holding a public hearing at our meeting on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 7PM. You are welcome to come in person or by Zoom (Meeting #814-8666-0205). You can comment on any aspect of the project, but the only decision at hand is whether to allow gas pumps or not.
The plan, as approved, has Stewarts buying two houses on Mohawk Avenue (206 and 208) plus the police parking lot behind the current store. They will build a new store in the spot where the houses now stand. The building will face the fire station but will also have a prominent entrance on Mohawk Avenue close to the sidewalk. Once the new store is complete, the old one will be torn down and gas pumps will be added (if approved, of course) fronting both on Mohawk Avenue and TenBroeck Street. They usually complete this kind of project very quickly. I thank Stewarts for their continued investment in our community.

Dear Village Resident-
We are pleased to announce that the Scotia Branch of the Schenectady County Public Library is back in operation and ready to serve you. Come to 14 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia (in the park at the corner of Collins Street) and see for yourself. The County has put a lot of money into making our historical gem more beautiful and more functional. On the outside, the slate roof was replaced and siding fixed and painted. A program room has been added with plans to make it available for public functions. The inside has been upgraded while preserving some of the feel of a farmhouse from the 1730s.
New hours are: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10AM to 5PM and Tuesday and Thursday, Noon to 7PM. Come down and check it out. Check anything out that you want - Magazines, Books, Movies, Music, Audio-Books all of it free. Material from any library in the system is available and any item from any library can be returned here day or night. Who else has a fully functional library in an historic building overlooking a beautiful park that is easy to get into and out of and now has hours to fit anyone's schedule? You just can't go wrong!
